Both St Germans and Hayle have good train services and having retained almost all its branch lines, there aren't many things that can't be done in Cornwall by train and bus . There has been a Devon and Cornwall Rover railpass which gives virtually unlimited travel throughout Cornwall and Devon for 3 days in 7 at £40 per adult. Phone 08457 000 125 for more information. Alternatively there are Cornwall (inc. Tamar Valley line) or Devon Ranger passes which give unlimited travel for a day at £10 per adult or £5 per child. But check out some fares first on "The Train Line" as the fares are quite reasonable anyway.
