· St Ives - Visit the Tate Modern, the art shops and beautiful golden sandy beaches. Lovely branch line trip; change at St Erth. Possible on Sundays, but only in the summer.

· Falmouth - Catch the train from Truro and take a walk around Pendennis Castle and headland, or catch a ferry to St Mawes and walk around the scenic countryside of the Roseland Peninsula. Possible on Sundays, but only in the summer. Also visit the National Maritime Museum, a very exciting attracion not to be missed.

· Marazion and St. Michael's Mount; Catch a bus from Penzance to see the beautiful St Michael’s Mount - which can be reached by foot when the tide is out. The contact number for St Michaels Mount is 01736 710507; web page www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk. For tide times phone 01736 710265. The bus station in Penzance is adjacent to the train station.

· Kart World, Menheniot Station; Honda Race Karts, Junior Go Karts, mountain bike circuits, picnic area, canteen and burger bar (main season only). Trains allow for an afternoon or morning trip, although services to Menheniot station and not extensive. Tel: 01579 347229.

· Truro - Capital of Cornwall and shopping centre, with beautiful cathedral. Also in Truro is The Royal Cornwall Museum - Cornwall’s flagship museum with Cornish history and archeology, exhibitions, fine and decorative art, minerals, natural history, shop and café. And The Hall For Cornwall - which host theatre and music productions as well as other events.

· Exeter - See the Cathedral and old town, walk along the river, or visit the many museums and markets. You could even go for a canal cruise; contact White Heather Scenic Canal Cruises on 07831 108319.

· Flambards Theme Park - for this extensive theme park, catch the bus from Redruth Station. Buses also run from Truro.

· Lands End - Buses run fairly frequently from Penzance and take about 40 minutes. Tel: 01736 871220 (info line) or 01736 871501.

· The Minack Theatre - Catch a play at this superb open air theatre, beside the lovely Porthcurno beach, or visit the Cable and Wireless museum at Porthcurno. Buses run regularly from Penzance bus station (which is beside the railway station). Tel: 01736 810181.

· Pecorama at Beer, Devon; bit of a haul but a super place to visit. Catch the train to Exeter then the bus to Beer.

· Cycle from St Germans to Liskeard via the pretty villages of Bethany, Doddycross and Pengover Green then catch the train back from Liskeard. Or for the more adventurous continue to the moors.
